Job Title: Finance & Accounting Manager (Controller Track)

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The Finance & Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Accounting and Procurement functions while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the Company’s financial information. This role leads the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, oversees financial reporting, supervises accounting and procurement staff, strengthens internal controls, and partners with leadership to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.

This position is designed as a succession opportunity for an individual who demonstrates the leadership, technical expertise, and business acumen necessary to advance into the role of Controller.

Essential Responsibilities

Financial Close & Reporting

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and adjusting entries.
  • Ensure timely completion of all month-end close tasks and financial reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.
  • Analyze financial results and explain significant variances.

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable (including client collections), fixed assets, cash management, and payroll support.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.

Procurement & Purchasing

  • Oversee the Company’s procurement and purchasing functions.
  • Directly supervise the Purchasing Manager.
  • Review vendor performance, purchasing trends, and spend analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Partner with Operations to strengthen purchasing, inventory controls, and supplier relationships.

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting, administrative, and procurement personnel.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and establish development plans.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Maintain and improve internal controls.
  • Support audits, tax preparation, lender reporting, and ESOP-related financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Process Improvement

  • Improve accounting workflows through automation and standardization.
  • Assist with ERP and financial system enhancements.

Budgeting & Analysis

  • Assist the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
  • Perform ROI analysis on capital investments.
  • Provide ad hoc reporting and decision support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA or CMA preferred.
  • 2–5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Manufacturing or commercial printing experience preferred.
  • Experience leading month-end close and financial reporting.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting software proficiency.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
